I’m glad I didn’t stay in bed today! My soar throat and tired body wanted to just read a book, but I decided to go out with my roommates (Haley and Kelly) and their gang for the day. I hadn’t spent much time with them on the trip, so it was fun to spend a day with them in London (Britney, Leila, Meagan, Haley, and Kelly).
We started out a bit late in the day, (which was fine by me!). We started off by going to Nottinghill. Though I had seen the movie ‘Nottinghill’ with Hugh Grant awhile back, I had Britney rehash the storyline to me. We strolled through Portabello Road Market, which is the largest market I’ve ever been to. The only thing I bought was a light yellow pashmina scarf, which I bought for super cheap! I do love them and it came in handy during the windier parts of the day. We stopped at a Thai restaurant around one and the food was delicious (or we were just super hungry)! I had chrysanthemum tea with my lunch because it sounded yummy, but it was kind of bland because the waiter forgot to bring me some necessary sugar (for those that know me well.. it must be sweet!). We carried on back up the market and stopped at the Hummingbird café and purchased cupcakes! It was a café that a few of the girls had their heart set on visiting and I must say, it was quite easily the best cupcake I have ever had! It was kind of like a smaller version of the layered chocolate and cheesecake Albert made in January. Mmmm.. delicious! (I’m starting to sound like a pig!)
We swung by the hotel for a bit of a nap and regrouping before the six of us set out again. This time, we went first to Kings Cross station to visit platform 9 ¾, but I had already done that yesterday. We snapped photos then hopped back on the tube for Buckingham Palace! It was quite the fortress, but we strolled around the gates snapping pictures and a few girls broke into melodies from the Sound of Music. We then walked for a good 45 minutes or so to the London Eye, passing Big Ben as we went! We met the rest of our group there and loaded onto one of the passenger cars. It’s similar to a ferris wheel, but it moves very slowly and has a lot of space to move around. There are big glass windows stretched 360 degrees around, allowing you to see 30 miles or so in every direction. It was pretty amazing, but there was a bit of a glare when trying to take pictures. It was a really great experience and those who were afraid of heights had no problem with it because it moved so slow (they did stay to the middle though!).
After the London Eye, I teamed up with Laura and Ellie. We went for a quick bite at a café in Covent Gardens before coming back to the hotel.
I am quite tired tonight, but found the energy to post this! There were a few good pictures from today; I hope you enjoy! I thought I was getting a bit better after today, but I opened my mouth to speak to my roommate recently and it came out really horsey. Hopefully it will clear up soon, or at least not be too much of an impediment to my travels.
Miss you all! Hope you are well!
xo, Bethany
**Update: It's Saturday morning here in London and we are headed for Oxford! My throat is still pretty botchy, but it's not slowing me down to much. A little less talking, of course.. ;o)
Have a lovely weekend!!
