Edinburgh day 1

Today was a pretty relaxing day in Edinburgh. We were allowed to sleep in and we didn’t start our day until 11 o’clock. The plans for the day were simple and short, a bus tour around Edinburgh. The city is really nice and isn’t nearly as overwhelming as London was. I got my bearings decently and when the tour was over, I set out with Laura and Ellie to see the Art museum. I always feel a bit out of place at art museums. I do walk around and intently look at the art, hoping for some insight or inspiration. I’m sure I can name friends who would lose their breath or tear up at the site of them, but I lack the knowledge about history and art to truly appreciate them. None-the-less, it was fun to wander around with some folks who did appreciate it more. Ellie was scribbling down the names of famous paintings she saw and Laura bought a book of 1001 paintings to see before you die. Amanda and Peggy caught up to us and the five of us toured around the city on foot.
We stopped for lunch at the elephant house which is known as the “birthplace of Harry Potter,” otherwise explained as the coffee-house café that JK Rowling would sit to write ideas for her Harry Potter books. There was an amazing view of some beautiful architecture from our seat in the café. The girls were pretty funny rubbing the table saying “what if she sat here and wrote ideas at this table!..” etc. It was quite fun and then we meandered back to the Art museum to catch another exhibit. We stopped at several stores around town and I picked up some postage for postcards. Hopefully I will get them out of my hands and into yours before I get home! I’m missing some addresses, so please send me yours if you want one! =) While we were waiting for Ellie at H&M, we watched this bored little boy ride up and down the elevators about four times. He was hilarious to watch!.. we were amused by watching him amuse himself!
Now I’m off to Starbucks to write some postcards and relax for a little bit before dinner. Hope you all are well!
I’m having a bit of problems with the internet access here at the hostel, so please be patient. I know it will be better towards the end of the week when we are staying in London and the wi-fi is easy to access in the lobby.
Cheers! ;o)
